Research Project Description:
My research involves systematic modeling and design of large-scale controls for feed-forward generation scheduling (tertiary-control/load-following) and feedback response (regulation). The objective is to formulate a mathematical framework to balance the predicted load and the non-zero mean prediction error in wind power output. In particular, I am interested in quantifying the system efficiency. It entails modeling the non-linear energy conversion dynamics of the heterogeneous generation technologies, electrically coupled through the network constraints. The framework is to be extended by including the load based frequency regulation. Through localized load response, the aim is to increase the regulation capacity of the system and unbundle the socialized cost of regulation.

Research Interests: tertiary control, load-following, energy conversion, power system efficiency, regulation, load control, regulation markets
