Project Title:
Making protections smarter to increase DG and intermittent power sources penetration in
distribution networks Carnegie Mellon PI: Marija Ilic Carnegie Mellon Graduate Student: Marija Prica INESC Porto-Portugal Participants: Prof. João A. Peças Lopes, Prof. Vladimiro Miranda, Prof. M. Matos Start date: August 1, 2007 End date: August 1, 2008 Project Description: Develop and test conceptual solutions for protection systems to install in electrical grids and dispersed generation (DG) units to increase the penetration of this type of generation units, including renewable intermittent power sources. This research will tackle two situations: a) islanding operation of the distribution grid and b) fault detection cases. Publications: M.Prica and M. Ilic, "Maximizing Reliable Service by Coordinated Islanding and Load Management in Distribution Systems under Stress" (submitted to 16th Power Systems Computation Conference, July 14-18, 2008, Glasgow, Scotland) |
